The match was billed as the biggest heavyweight event in UFC history, and the fighting event of the year – and they were totally right. UFC 116: Lesnar vs Carwin lived up to buzz, and so much more. By the time the final bell rang, there were 4 genuine possibles for the FOTN award, and a pair of candidates for Submission of the Night. As excellent as the main card between Lesnar and Carwin turned out to be – yes, every bit as good as the hype – I take my hat off to two fights: Leben-Akiyama and Bonnar-Soszynski. Each made a case for Fight of the Night, and I’m glad they didn’t waste time trying to decide which is which by awarding both fights with it. Classic, edge of your seat matches that left me holdign my breath the entire way – and I wasn’t even pulling for any particular combatant. I said it before and I’ll say it again, this was an event no fight fan should miss, and I hope you didn’t. But just in case…
